Better Late Than Never

After over four years of ignoring and sometimes antagonizing them, President Obama has finally decided to visit Israel.

Has he finally learned that to stabilize the Middle East, the United States needs to have a good understanding of and useful relationship with, the area's only representative republic?

I suppose it had to happen someday.  After all, during a heated election season the Obama administration goes belly up on September 11, 2012.  The President fell asleep at the helm even as he watched the iceberg get closer in real time.  His political luck at the cost of American lives was that the loyal opposition was so politically inept, they failed to field the grounder that was sent their way.  The American voting public accepted the official administration stance, " Oh, yes, yes Benghazi was bad.  Things have to be looked into and things have to be changed, right after the election."

The secretary of state, when she was finally able to sit up and take nourishment, was deservedly sent packing but her boss remains in power.  But at least we have full disclosure on the Benghazi incident!  Oh, ... we don't, ... do we?

Now that he has made a pig's breakfast of the country's economy and has created a government that can't function, what to do next??  Road trip!!

I think it is all George Bush's fault.

I miss Jimmy Carter, at least he had an entertaining brother.

Clint Eastwood Speaks, America Listens

Even though I am a registered Republican, I didn't feel there was a real reason to watch the Republican National Convention since Romney's nomination would be a fait accompli.

I finally decided to watch some only because I knew Clint Eastwood would be speaking.  I respect Mr. Eastwood for is acting and directing abilities but I wasn't sure an eighty-two year old actor would do well under the strain of such an event.

    

As I watched his performance I thought it kind of lame and at times thought he was losing his train of thought.  There were however two seminal moments during his oration in which he was spot on.

He declared that President Obama should not be reelected because he wasn't getting the job done and he stated, "See, I never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to be president anyway..."

I wholeheartedly concur with both of these sentiments.  I now admit, it was a constructive activity to listen to Mr. Eastwood's talk.

PATHETIC

President Obama has made a pig's breakfast of the economy of the United States. 

He has shaken the foundation of the system of checks and balances of the federal government by bludgeoning the Supreme Court. In addition he has made many interim appointments that need no congressional approval.

He has weaken the foreign powers of the United States by apologizing to every country imaginable for our actions.  And at the same time he has failed to take decisive leadership actions in the wake of world events.

He as head of the executive branch he is suppose to enforce federal laws but he has allowed the INS not to enforce immigration laws.

With all this said, he believes his path to reelection is to paint his campaign as a fight for women's rights!

Thank you.  Keep going in that direction.  And please leave a nice note to Mr. Romney when you leave the White House in January 2013.

Commissar Obama Speaks: Useful Idiots React

It has been a few days since President Obama threatened the United States Supreme Court.  The most disgusting aspect of his verbal abuse was that it was done in the presence of two other world leaders.  But really, what do you expect from the Commissar-in-Chief ?

To put it in its proper perspective it was not only a threat but a signal for the war to begin.  The war against the court.  And of course it was done exactly on purpose to signal to all the useful-idiots that they must take action and start their salvos against the court.

Enter Maureen Dowd, right on cue!  Her shameful op-ed piece appeared in the New York Times on April 3, with the sexist title of Men in Black. 

She said of the Supreme Court, "It is run by hacks dressed up in black robes."  Do you think this type of characterization is appropriate for describing a co-equal branch of government that provides checks and balances on the executive and legislative branches?

The piece appeared to be an unintelligible rambling of an illiterate fool.   The column was full of venom and ad hominem attacks for the Supreme Court justices, more specifically the conservatives members.   She stated, "...it was stunning to hear Antonin Scalia talking like a Senate Whip..." and later described him as, "...often venomous Scalia."  In her description of Chief Justice John Roberts she said, "...he's a crimson partisan..." and also noted that Justice Alito was, "...the insufferable Samuel Alito..."  And she also commented that, "Inexplicably mute 20 years after he lied his way onto the court, Clarence Thomas..." 

A jewel of her mindless diatribe was stating that in 2000, the court had, "...helped to purloin the election for W...."  whom she goes on to slam for invading Iraq and ignoring Katrina.  If all else fails and you have no cogent argument, attack George Bush.  How typical and how predictable.

The arrogance and condescension that President Obama exhibited for the Supreme Court was surpassed by Ms. Dowd's op-ed piece.

I would have thought that a president, lawyer, college professor or writer would have more respect and reverence for the constitutional responsibilities of the Supreme Court. 

The framers of the Constitution and authors of the Bill of Rights were intelligent and visionary men.  They produced a document that was timeless yet flexible. 

It is a national disgrace that some very high profile people have forgotten this.  How sad, how very sad.

COMMISSAR OBAMA

Well it seems Commissar Obama, the Nanny-in-Chief, has made a number of recess appointments in his continuing effort to ignore the legislative branch of government. It reminds one of President Franklin Roosevelt who tried to pack the Supreme Court in order to rubber stamp his actions as opposed to acquiescing to the judicial branch. It seems Lord Acton was on target about power corrupting those who have it.

In this recent unconstitutional move, President Obama named Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Board and he also made three new members of the pro-union National Labor Relations Board. It is quite obvious that none of these appointments has anything to do with any national emergency or exigent circumstance of any type. These are just the actions of an arrogant socialist trying to control everything in an unprecedented power grab. This is a good tactic since most people are busy watching the economy while the president plays sleight of hand with the legislative powers of Congress to approve these presidential appointments. Hard to approve or deny them when Congress is not in session. The operative dichotomy is to approve or deny!! Yes, Congress, in particular the Senate, has that power. The House has something better, that body has the powers of the "purse string" and the power of impeachment, although the Senate tries the offender.

Therein lies the rub. President Obama refuses to be denied anything in a time when many Americans are denying themselves many things due to the struggling economy. This action seems in sharp contrast to his initial laissez faire attitude when he began his administration. At that time, he let the Democrat controlled Congress produce a pork-u-lus bill which he eagerly signed and thereby committed the American taxpayers to a Herculean debt never before seen in world history! Then to quell the public criticism and political fire storm he caused by doing so, he met with members of Congress to discuss the situation and plainly told John McCain that he lost the presidential race and he won. Therefore, President Obama could do what he wanted and then he told the rest of the duly elected representatives of the taxpayers to (blank) off!

Alas, commissars are like that. We mere mortals who pay taxes to support the many levels of government and the many parasitic members of our society, just don't understand. We are too busy clinging to our religion and guns to truly appreciate the genius of the Dear Leader. O yes, it was quite apparent last year that the very debt commission he appointed, got it wrong too. It was a good thing he was there to propose to decrease the debt by only one quarter of what his commissioners recommended. Bad commissioners, I hope they were banished to a salt mine. (Oh, Uncle Joe Stalin, only now we realize how brilliant you were!)

Is there any good news? Yes, yes, yes! There is a presidential election coming up, that is of course, if President Obama does not cancel it.

I still believe in the American form of republican government. No president yet has destroyed this great country, only because we didn't allow it to happen. Get off your (blank) and vote!

THE TRAGEDY OF PENN STATE

In this day and age it is incomprehensible to understand that leaders in large and high profile institutions have not picked up on how to handle politically sensitive matters.

What many people have learned is that when bad things happen they should be handled correctly regardless of bad press or increased scrutiny by governmental agencies or the news media. And what is just as bad as the incident in question, is the painful and infamous dissection of the cover-up.

Investigations have begun by state and federal authorities looking into the allegations of sexual abuse at Penn State. Pennsylvania authorities are looking for violation of state law and the U. S. Department of Education is investigating for violations of federal law under the Clery Act. The Clery Act deals with the proper reporting of crimes at or near colleges and universities that receive federal funding.

Grand jury testimony indicates that former coach Jerry Sandusky has been accused of sexually assaulting at least eight boys. Reports indicate that prior to those allegations, Sandusky was arrested in 1998 on similar charges but the prosecutor failed to continue legal action against him.

Reports indicate that football coach Joe Paterno was aware of the arrest in 1998 and of at least one of the allegations that appeared later. He claims he properly reported the later incident but at no time were police contacted to investigate this allegation.

What is more important at a state university, saving the prestige of the university and its football empire or the protection of young boys from sexual predators?

Regardless of the results of these investigations, I can't help but wonder what would have happened if everyone involved, just did the right thing. How much pain and suffering of the victims would have been avoided? How much respect would we have for Penn State today?

ECONOMICS AND HISTORY

Two governors of New York State have recently decided that the state was in such economic turmoil that they could not afford to provide money to set up the New York State War of 1812 200th Anniversary Commemoration Commission. The purpose of the commission was to plan and execute an organized series of reenactment tourism events during the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812. Several years ago Governor Patterson vetoed the bill and most recently Governor Andrew Cuomo vetoed a similar bill on September 23, 2011. Both chief executives thought that there would be sufficient money for such purposes from other sources. This was a sound decision in these times of economic uncertainty, or was it?

History tells us that such INVESTMENTS pay off in the long run through sales and marketing, which is inherent in the commemoration activities. These events increase tourism which thereby creates a boon to the local economy of the area that hosts these events. Most certainly the revenue generated by private enterprise and the state, via taxes and fees, would far outweigh the initial expenditure. This is why the legislators have proposed this on several occasions.

One should also keep in mind that the legislators acted on behalf of their constituents, the TAXPAYER! The bill was surely wanted by the people since the measure passed both the Assembly and the Senate, only to be vetoed by Governor Cuomo. He should be cognizant of the fact that the money he controls is the money of the PEOPLE, not the state's. The state gets that money by confiscation of the people's money, through taxes and fees paid. The money comes from New York State residents and all others who do business, travel through, purchase products and get an education, in New York State.

More important than the economic considerations are the sacrifices of the previous generations in our national and state history. Most of the War of 1812 was fought on the northern border of the United States and the adjacent area in Canada. New York State's border with Canada is about 450 miles long and fighting occurred at locations along that entire distance. The blood of New York citizens, the blood of federal troops and the blood of Iroquois warriors was spilled in New York State and Canada along that border. Their sacrifice of blood and treasure should be officially remembered and duly honored.

It is shameful that no commission was set up for the commemoration of the War of 1812 in New York State and equally shameful that similar legislation failed to pass in the United States Congress. The states of Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia and the federal government of Canada are all planning commemorations of the war.

In early 1814, $50,000 was given by New York State to assist in resettling refugees from the Niagara Frontier during The War of 1812. Maybe Governor Cuomo should take a lesson in history from one of his predecessors. Governor Daniel D. Tompkins was governor of New York State from 1807 to 1817.

DOLLARS AND SENSE

When are the American people ever going to realize that governments have no money of their own?

The money a government has is that amount it has confiscated from people and corporations by way of taxes and fees. Therefore the phrase "government money" is a misnomer.

Those proposals that call for more government spending to get us out of the economic slump will only exacerbate the problem.

Fiscal responsibility by way of reducing debt, reducing spending and increasing revenue, not through taxes (which will fail) but providing incentives for investments.

The most effective method for increasing revenue would to revamp the income tax codes, both federal and state. Alas, this is politically impossible. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

THE WHIRL-I-GIG OF TIME BRINGS IN IT'S REVENGES

Mother Nature and politics have something in common, both exhibit cyclical behavior.

Now that Newt Gingrich has gained in the polls, the Dems are in unison and on the attack. Newt the college professor, BOOOOOOOO!! Last week it was front runner Cain-on the Hedonist, now Gingrich is in the barrel.

The howls of political discourse are echoing across the land. From fanatic blogs to liberal newspapers and commentators, the message is clear, attack Newt, his fictional writings and his historical perspectives. BUT PLEASE, AVOID REALISTICALLY TALKING ABOUT VIABLE SOLUTIONS TO OUR NATIONAL PROBLEMS!

Sad, so very sad. Remember the good old days when we had Dems like Pat Moynihan and Sam Nunn. Country first, politics second.
